Local Chapters

Eastbourne, UK | SBC Eastbourne

Eastbourne, UK | SBC Eastbourne

Are you a book loving introvert living on the sunshine coast? Why not join fellow book-minded people with the Eastbourne chapter of Silent Book Club. We host free monthly reading sessions where we read our own books in companionable silence in the surroundings of the local bookstore.

There are no set readings, so bring whatever book you would like (of any format including ebook, or audio if you have headphones!)

Please note that we are unable to provide refreshments, so bring your own snacks and drinks if required. If you want to chat, need to check your phone or take a call during the designated silent hour, please step outside to avoid disturbing readers.

We will take a photo of bookstacks and e-readers before we dive into the reading hour for a visual summary of what we as a group are currently reading!

Find our upcoming meetings and more information on our Facebook group's site

Got any questions? Please email our chapter organiser Jessica at eastbourneSBC@gmail.com.

Take some time out of your busy schedule and join us for the new Silent Book Club at Somerset Heritage Centre for exclusive library access on the last Friday of each month. It’s a time for some peace and quiet where you can pick up a book and get stuck in, surrounded by the history of Somerset.

Bring your own book with you and if you don’t have a book of your own, we have plenty! Somerset Local Studies Library holds published works relating to all aspects of Somerset life, including books, pamphlets, maps, journal articles and illustrations.

Silent Book Clubs have no assigned reading: they allow likeminded people to meet and sit with a cuppa and a biscuit* and read together in quiet companionship. Once you’ve done your reading feel free to stay and have a chat with your fellow book-clubbers afterwards.

St Albans, United Kingdom / St Albans Silent Book Club irl

Here's a now-not-so-novel (!) idea: Inspired by the Silent Book Club phenomenon (https://silentbook.club), bring along your current read of choice, any genre and any format (whether physical books, e-books, or audiobooks). There is NO assigned reading and absolutely NO deadlines to finish a book!
At the start and at the end of the session we spend a few minutes sharing with one another about our book, but even then, there is absolutely no pressure or obligation to do so. You may even find some helpful recommendations of a genre you had never previously considered.

Above all, this is a low-key, low-commitment book club so please drop in whenever you can!
