Introducing the Silent Book Club in Hilversum!

Are you a book lover who enjoys reading in peace, but also craves a sense of community? Inspired by the global movement of silent reading groups, this unique club offers a cozy space where people can gather, read together in silence, and then share thoughts afterward—without the pressure of book reports or formal discussions.

How it Works: 1. Bring a Book (or E-Reader): Whatever you're currently reading, whether it's fiction, non-fiction, or poetry—just bring it along! 2. Read in Silence: Enjoy some quiet time as you immerse yourself in your book. No need to talk, no small talk, just reading. 3. Chat Afterwards (Optional): Once the reading time is over, if you’d like, you can share what you're reading, recommend books, or simply chat about anything book-related. It's a perfect way to meet fellow book lovers, discover new reads, and take some time for yourself amidst a busy schedule.

Timetable:
19:30 - 20:00 find a seat, get a drink or snack at the café, say hello

20:00 - 21:00 silent reading time (please step away for a chat)
21:00 - 21:30 chat about the book read, book recommendations or just keep reading.


Don't forget to bring your own book or look for a new book at the library. All (e-)books, languages and all readers are welcome!
This club is free to join, but please let us know you'll be coming by reserving a free spot.

At Dutch Language Café we organise all sorts of events in Dutch, for people learning the language as well as native Dutch speakers looking to socialise outside of their bubble.

The DLC Silent Book Club is an opportunity to meet people and practise Dutch in a less extraverted way than some of our other events. We also believe firmly in reading as a way to become more fluent in a language, so we encourage our attendees to read in a language they are learning, whether that is Dutch or another language! We provide an opportunity at the end of the activity to discuss in Dutch what you have read.

De Stille Boekenclub is een groep leesliefhebbers die het leuk vinden om hun liefde voor lezen met elkaar te delen. We lezen niet allemaal hetzelfde boek zoals in een klassieke boekenclub, maar je kiest zelf wat je wil lezen. We starten de bijeenkomst met een voorstelrondje. Iedereen vertelt kort iets over zichzelf en over het boek dat je gaat lezen. Vervolgens gaan we een uurtje lezen en hierna vertel je kort wat je tot nu toe van het boek vond.

We are a Silent Book Club organized through the Bibliotheek Midden-Brabant, a group of libraries in the center-south of the Netherlands. Our discussions are all in Dutch, unlike other book clubs even within the Netherlands, to provide an option for people who might not be as proficient in English or who otherwise prefer conversing in Dutch. We meet on Thursday evenings twice a month, once online and once in the LocHal in Tilburg.

At Café The Golden Lion (Kafee De Gouden Leeuw) we’ve opened the very first Silent Book Club of Fryslân. Bring your own book to Tresoar (where the Golden Lion is situated) and take a seat in our cozy café. We provide you a quiet and comfortable place to read - you bring your book.

Meet & Read
Genre or language? Doesn't matter! It can be English, Dutch or Frisian – anything you like.
Like to review your book or exchange book tips? Sure, no problem! But you can also just take a seat and have a quiet read.
Get to know your fellow readers or would you rather read with no strings attached? Do it your own way!
