Putting Silent Book Club on the Map

When Silent Book Club first started in 2012, our meetings were organized through word of mouth among a small circle of friends. It wasn't until late 2015 that we designed a logo, built a website, and embarked on our mission to transform Silent Book Club into a global movement.

We launched our Facebook group in 2016 with three chapters—San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles—and invited other readers to start clubs in their local neighborhoods. Since then, Silent Book Club meetups have been held in more than 300 cities across five continents. Some chapters have come and gone, while several of our longest running groups are celebrating their 3rd anniversary (Columbus! Orange County!).

We've always wanted to foster a bookish community not just online, but also in real life. So we are thrilled to launch a new interactive map to help readers connect and find local SBC chapters. You can pan around the map and click on markers to see the name of each chapter. Click again on the marker to read the chapter description and find out when and where the group meets.

Silent Book Club Chapters in Europe

We currently have 130 active Silent Book Club chapters around the world, all organized and hosted by volunteers in their communities. They meet at bookstores, libraries, cafés, bars, community centers, churches, high schools, restaurants, hotels, parks, museums, and gardens.

Silent Book Club Chapters in Asia

In 2019 SBC was featured in Oprah Magazine, NPR, and the world's largest English-language newspaper, The Times of India. Chapter hosts in Toronto and London were interviewed on the CBC and BBC Radio. And the number of active SBC chapters around the world doubled. It was a big year for us, and we are so grateful to all of our volunteers and members around the world who have joined our introvert revolution.

We'll have more news coming in 2020, so join us online, find your local chapter, and stay tuned!
