Shhh… Hear that? It’s the sound of everyone dropping everything to read.
Remember Sustained Silent Reading (SSR)? Or the magic of D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read)? Back in school, being "forced" to read was easily the best part of the day.
Imagine how much better your Monday would be if someone gave you permission to tune out the pressures of day-to-day life to dive into a gripping story—for 20 minutes, with zero interruptions. Pure heaven, right?
This Read Across America Day, let’s do just that.
THE SCIENCE OF SILENCE
We aren't just dropping everything to read for the nostalgia—it's actually good for your brain. According to a study from the University of Sussex, reading for just six minutes can lower your stress levels by as much as 68%.
To put that in perspective, reading was found to be more effective for relaxation than listening to music, drinking tea or coffee, or going for a walk. And in a world where we’re constantly inundated with digital noise, it’s more imperative than ever to give our brains a break.
