Essentials

• Books: Bring at least one for the plane, one for the pool, and one to swap!
• Headphones/earbuds: Essential for the flight and the audiobook walk.
• Tote bag or backpack: Crucial for carrying book hauls from bookstores and gear to the beach.
• Portable charger and/or power bank: You'll want your phone charged up for audiobooks and photo opps!
• Reusable water bottle: Stay hydrated, friends!
  

Clothing

• Swimwear: Bring 2 suits - One to wear while the other dries.
• Cover-up / sarong: Easy transition from pool to room.
• Rash guard / SPF shirt: Highly recommended to prevent sunburn (sun is strong even in March!)
• Light sweater / jacket: For evening breezes and air-conditioned hotel rooms.
• Rain jacket: A lightweight, packable one just in case of passing showers.
• Dinner outfits: Think "resort casual" — nothing is fancy in Hawaii.
• Comfortable walking shoes: For your audiobook walk and bookstore browsing.
• Sandals / flip-flops: The Hawaii uniform—but we call them "slippers."
  

Toiletries & extras

• Reef-safe sunscreen: Required by law in Hawaii. Look for mineral sunscreens, non-nano zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.
• Sunglasses & hat: Wide-brim is best for reading by the pool.
• Waterproof phone case: Great for the beach or unexpected splashes.
• Snorkel gear: Optional. We will provide snorkel gear, but if you are particular about fit, bring your own mask. The hotel provides boogie boards and beach chairs.

Getting from the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) to the Wayfinder Waikiki hotel (2375 Ala Wai Blvd) usually takes about 20–30 minutes, depending on traffic.

You can book an airport shuttle in advance here, or use a rideshare app (Uber/Lyft). The cost should be $30-$40, unless surge pricing is in effect. There are also taxis available, but they tend to be more expensive.

Rideshare pickup locations are on the 1st Floor (Arrivals level)

• From Terminal 1 (Hawaiian Airlines): Exit the baggage claim area and turn left. The pickup area is curbside at the far end of the terminal.
• From Terminal 2 (International & domestic mainland flights): Exit the baggage claim and cross the first street to the center median. There are two designated zones: one across from Baggage Claims 19/20 and another across from Baggage Claim 31.

We will be staying at the Wayfinder Waikiki, located at 2375 Ala Wai Blvd. Your reservation is under your own name. You should have received an email confirmation directly from the hotel, let us know if you did not receive it (hello@silentbook.club).

Three nights (March 5-8) have been paid for in advance with our group reservation. If you added additional nights, you will be charged for those separately at the hotel.

Check-in is at 3 pm, check-out is at 11 am. Early check-in and late check-out are based on availability and may cost additional fees. Please check with the Front Desk at check-in for availability. Luggage storage is available. 

As we are now within 30 days of departure, the retreat fees are non-refundable (see terms & conditions). If you haven't yet purchased trip insurance, please do so ASAP!

We require all SBC Reading Retreat participants to purchase travel insurance at the time of booking to cover unexpected cancellations, illness or injury, lost baggage, or other expenses.
