Spotlight: Charleston, South Carolina
We're shining a light on the people who make Silent Book Club great—our local organizers. Get to know the folks behind the scenes, and maybe get inspired to start your own chapter!
We first met Corrin Foster in 2020 when she worked at a publishing house in Austin, Texas. She reached out to us to promote an author's book, and we worked together on several campaigns for different authors over the course of a couple years.
When Corrin moved from Austin to Charleston, South Carolina, for a new job in publishing, she was looking for a way to meet new friends. Realizing there wasn’t a local chapter of SBC, she decided that starting one seemed like the perfect solution.
SBC Charleston launched in 2022 and is thriving. Corrin is surprised by how quickly the group has grown.
"The first six months we had anywhere from 2 to 6 people attend our meetups, which was lovely! In the last two months we’ve gained 300 Instagram followers and our meet ups are now regularly 25 or more people."
Seeing people get excited to share their favorite books with new friends is what Corrin enjoys most about hosting SBC. And helping to spread the love of reading—and Silent Book Club—is rewarding.
"We regularly have members bring their significant others, children, and friends to meetups, and I love to see them share the experience with those close to them."
What's the last great book you read?
I’ve read a lot of good books this year (The Rachel Incident, Yellowface, Hello Beautiful) but am still on the hunt for one I can’t stop talking about.
What book do you find yourself recommending most?
The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey is one I love and always recommend. I love all of their books.
