This page covers StoryStats specifically. It works alongside, but doesn't override, Silent Book Club's main Privacy Policy, which governs the rest of silentbook.club (accounts, orders, the newsletter, etc.). Where this page is silent on something, SBC's main policy applies.

Privacy Policy

What StoryStats collects

When you download a stats card, we log the reading-session details you entered: pages or time spent, percent complete, the optional book title, the optional custom stat you chose, your ink color and background choice, mode (physical/audiobook/ebook), and orientation, along with basic technical info (device type, OS, browser, timestamp, and how you reached the page). This goes into a private Silent Book Club spreadsheet used to run the tool and to understand aggregate reading trends (e.g., how many people are reading vs. listening). It is not sold, and it is not shared with anyone outside Silent Book Club.

Book covers you upload

If you upload a photo of a book cover, it's processed entirely inside your own browser to draw your card. It is never uploaded, transmitted, or stored anywhere. We don't have a copy of it and never see it.

Email signup

The optional email signup is used only to send you the Silent Book Club newsletter, and only if you opt in. You can unsubscribe at any time. This is governed by SBC's main Privacy Policy.

Cookies & local storage

StoryStats stores a couple of small technical values in your browser (not third-party ad-tracking cookies): one to avoid double-counting if you download the same card twice, and one to remember that you've already seen the email signup prompt. We also use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand overall usage of the tool, including pages viewed, buttons clicked, general device/browser type, and an approximate location derived from IP address, per Google's standard practice. See Google's own privacy documentation for how they handle that data.

AI disclosure

StoryStats was built with the help of AI coding tools (credited in the footer below). We don't use AI to process, profile, or make decisions about your personal information. The tool just draws a card from the numbers you type in.

What we don't collect

No accounts, no passwords, no payment information, no precise location, no health data. We don't knowingly collect information from children, and StoryStats isn't directed at children.

How long we keep it & your rights

Session data is kept to power the tool and its aggregate reading-trend reporting. Because StoryStats doesn't use accounts or logins, we can't look up or delete "your" data by username, but if you've shared identifying details (like an email or a specific book title/timestamp you remember) and want it removed, email hello@silentbook.club and we'll act on it. You can also ask what we hold, correct it, or object to how it's used at the same contact.

1. Use of this tool

StoryStats is provided free of charge for personal, non-commercial use. By using it, you agree to these terms.

2. No warranty, limitation of liability

This tool is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Silent Book Club and the creator of this tool are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of it, and total liability for any claim is limited to $100 USD (StoryStats itself is free; you haven't paid us anything to use it).

3. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these terms or your use of StoryStats will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Denver, Colorado.

4. Arbitration & class action waiver

You and Silent Book Club agree to resolve any dispute arising from these terms or your use of StoryStats through binding individual arbitration rather than in court, except that either party may bring an individual claim in small claims court. You and Silent Book Club each waive any right to a jury trial or to participate in a class action.

5. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Silent Book Club and the creator of this tool from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of StoryStats or your violation of these terms.

6. Intellectual property

StoryStats, including its design, code, and graphics, is the intellectual property of its creator. You may not copy, reproduce, redistribute, or reverse-engineer any part of this tool without written permission.

7. Your content

Any images you upload are processed locally in your browser and are never stored or transmitted to any server (see Privacy Policy above). You're responsible for making sure you have the rights to any photo or content you choose to include on a card you download and share.

8. Third party content

The Silent Book Club name and logo are the property of Silent Book Club. Use of their name on this tool does not imply endorsement of, or affiliation with, any third party beyond Silent Book Club itself.

9. Changes

These terms may be updated at any time. Continued use of the tool after a change constitutes acceptance of the update.
