Silent Book Club... but make it a fundraiser!

That's Novel Books, an independent bookstore in Charlotte, North Carolina, hosted their second annual Silent Book Club fundraiser for OurBRIDGE for Kids, a nonprofit that supports newly arrived and first-generation immigrant and refugee children and their families.

Attendees enjoyed delicious empanadas, helped prep "know your rights" cards for local immigrants and refugees, and of course, got some reading in! It was a beautiful evening of community, connection, and giving back.

Between registrations and raffles, the fundraiser raised more than $800 to support the nonprofit's efforts, including afterschool and summer programs for kids, and language support for families. And that's not all – That's Novel Books also contributed a percentage of their May sales, plus 100% of the book sales from the event itself, to OurBRIDGE for Kids.

We are so proud to see our local chapters championing their communities. That's Novel Books and the Charlotte SBC members are shining examples of how the love of reading can extend beyond the page and make a real impact. OurBRIDGE for Kids does vital work for Charlotte's immigrant and refugee community. We urge everyone to check out their recommended reading list, or reach out directly to see how you can get involved.

This event truly embodied the spirit of Silent Book Club: finding belonging, supporting local businesses, and now, making a difference in the lives of others. Huge congratulations to That's Novel Books for an inspiring event!
